Transition to Latin Script
Kazakhstan’s university teachers are discussing the transition of the Kazakh alphabet to the Latin script. According to experts, the new alphabet will not only strengthen interethnic communication, but will also contribute to the personal growth of young people. Students will quickly adapt to the upcoming reform, as many young people are already using the Latin alphabet in everyday life. Representatives of the older generation should not be worried – transition to the Latin script will be carried out stage by stage, experts say.
ZAURE KARTOVA, HISTORIAN:
- After the transition to the Latin script, Kazakhstan will have an opportunity to bound with the roots of its national culture, and get closer to other Turkic peoples. There is a phased transition to the Latin script until 2025. I think that computer literate Kazakhstanis will be able to do it much faster.
The transition to the Latin script will improve teaching standards, teachers of the Ural Pedagogical College say. In their opinion, the new alphabet will simplify the process of learning the language, its use in the Web space. This issue is especially relevant amid the introduction of new educational programs.

- The Latin alphabet is the most widespread in the world. It is the language of science and technology. Transition to the Latin script will expand the information boundaries, speed up Kazakhstan’s integration into the world’s science, communications and high technologies. In addition, it promotes the development of the Kazakh language, sets the task of preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Kazakh people.
Teachers across Kazakhstan believe that the transition of the Kazakh alphabet to Latin script will let Kazakhstan integrate into the global community more quickly. In addition, this step will ensure Kazakhstan’s inclusion into the top 30 most developed countries in the world.
