Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan supports the transition to the Latin script
The Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan supports the transition to the Latin script. Representatives of scientific and creative intelligentsia, state bodies and universities discussed issues of introducing a single standard for the alphabet of the state language. Participants in the meeting are fully in agreement that this reform has a fateful historical character.
DARKHAN MYNBAI, DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON, APK:
- First, the transition of the Kazakh language into Latin alphabet is the core of the modernization of public consciousness program. The state language should become one of the main factors of consolidation of society and the translation into the Latin script opens great prospects for its harmonious development.
The APK notes that the transition to the Latin alphabet is a common goal and the members of the Assembly urge Kazakhstan's citizens to support the work on the discussion and adoption of the new alphabet of the state language.
ANATOLIY BASHMAKOV, HEAD OF DEPARTMENT, APK, GUMILEV EURASIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY:
- Everything is thought over, particularly, phonetics and nunaces of the Kazakh language. I think this work is underway. In my opinion, this will be a completely rational step forward especially, for young people.
BELLA GAZDIYEVA, GOVERNOR, RURAL DISTRICT OF TSELINOGRAD REGION:
- I felt that this is one of the goals that are to join the OECD 30 and to become a developed country. I think that the younger generation won’t have issues with the Latin script because we already use Latin very often for the Kazakh language in social networks and chats.
The APK members are confident that Kazakhstan will become closer to the world community with the transition of the Kazakh language to the Latin alphabet. 80% of scientific literature uses Latin script and 70% of all information is delivered in Latin. Another important factor is that millions of compatriots abroad are aware about Kazakhstan's reality thanks to the Latin alphabet. This is another way to establish harmonious relations with their homeland. The participants of the meeting highlight that there are many factors that support the transition to the Latin alphabet. The most important thing is to increase the country's competitiveness in the world arena.
