Green infrastructure development

In the age of high technology, the development of smart cities is becoming the focus of attention. The modern transport infrastructure and high environmental indicators are the criteria to assess the cities of the future. In Kazakhstan, the Smart City concept is being implemented in five largest cities, such as Astana, Karaganda, Shymkent, Aktobe and Almaty. In Almaty, for example, a light rail line will be built by 2022. It will transport up to 62,000 passengers a day. The project is implemented as part of a public-private partnership.

- The private partner will handle the design, construction as well as delivery and operation of the rolling stock for 23 years. Construction and operational risks will be on the private partner. + 0305 As for financing, 50 per cent is supposed to be covered by the Government and 50 per cent by the private partner. The approximate cost is about 130 billion Tenge.

The environmentally friendly light rail in Almaty will operate on tram lines. 22 kilometers of tracks will be added to the current existing lines. Modern electric tramcars will be used to carry passengers.

 - According to our project, the light rail transport will consist of three sections with the capacity of 210 people. For example, during rush hours, two tramcars can carry more than 400 people.

The intensive work on building the infrastructure for the light rail transport is currently ongoing in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana. The first line which is 22.4 kilometers will connect four main hubs, which are the Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport, EXPO, Abu Dhabi Plaza complex and the new Nurly Zhol railway station. Based on schedule, the launch of the light rail transport system in Astana is planned for 2019.
