New technologies in agriculture - Kazakh TV

Innovative technologies are the main factor in the development of agricultural sector. The system of drip irrigation helps to increase crop yields in Kazakhstan. The method is widely used in the regions, particularly Mangystau. 85 per cent of agricultural farms that grows vegetables and melons on open ground as well as greenhouses have benefitted from the implementation of the irrigation system.

TALANT ORAZBAYEV, DIRECTOR, GREENHOUSE COMPLEX:

 - Productivity has increased by 40 to 50 per cent. Most importantly, it is necessary not only to increase the number of harvest, but also to improve the quality of the produce. Many times we have seen good quality harvests.

By 2021, agricultural farms in Mangystau region will completely use the drip irrigation system. The technology will be used in a fruit and berry agro farm in the Zhambyl region. Cherry and apple orchards, walnut grove and vineyard farms have been set up on an area of 1,000 hectares. According to experts, 25 tons of produce can be collected from one hectare of the area.

NARMUKHAN SARYBAYEV, CHAIRPERSON, AGRARIAN CREDIT CORPORATION:

 - First, we will cover the domestic needs and then think about the export potential. We can export to Russia and China. We are also considering commercial financing.  The term will last for 10-12 years. It has been 10 years we have the funding.

The Saryagash district of the South Kazakhstan region have profited from the sale of harvests cultivated from the drip irrigation system. Peach trees and other types of fruit are planted on 70 hectares of land by local gardeners. The total area of the garden is estimated at 250 hectares.

NURBEK BADYRAKOV, SPOKESPERSON, AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT, SOUTH KAZAKHSTAN REGION:

 - This year, we focus on intensive gardening. The area of crops is estimated at 2,800 hectares. It is known that incomes from intensive gardening are 10 times higher whereas the incomes from cultivating cotton are 30 times higher. The drip irrigation is a priority in this area. Considerable amount of money can be saved by using the latest technology in watering and businesses can break-even in three years. Starting from the fourth year, it is possible to generate profit from five to 30 million tenge per hectare.

Agrarians said the drip irrigation system not only preserves water in the soil but also ensures the supply of fertilizers and agrochemicals, which provides protection against pests.
