New technologies in defense area
Kazakhstan’s army got equipped with the latest digital equipment. Border guards of Mangystau region began testing the geographic information system. The border guards enter online the geographical coordinates of the objects belonging to the regional department of Kazakhstan’s Border Guard Service on the electronic map. Operators can observe on the monitor the locations of all units, reconnaissance and search groups, border ships and boats as well as violators of the state border. The geographical information system allows the border guards to perform the rapid analysis of the current situation and make appropriate decisions with calculation of forces and time.
NAZAR RAKHIMOV, SENIOR STAFF, KAZAKHSTAN’S BORDER GUARD SERVICE:
- If our technical observation posts have identified something in the water that violates Kazakhstan’s state border, they report the coordinates to us. We put this data in the geographical information system and immediately chart the situation and see where our units are currently located. We make a decision for the possible detention and destruction of the object.
Meanwhile, the regional defense authorities have launched the construction of the first pier for boats and ships of Kazakhstan’s Border Guard Service in the port of Bautino in Mangystau region. The area is three hectares. It will accommodate hangars and other necessary facilities. The pier can take up to ten vessels at the same time. The pier’s construction works began in December and it will be completed in the summer. Experts noted that this facility will positively affect operations of the Border Guard Service and will improve the effectiveness of the state border protection.
TALGAT TUREBAYEV, SENIOR STAFF, KAZAKHSTAN’S BORDER GUARD SERVICE:
- The large border ships of projects 200 and 300 will be located in this pier. Previously, they did not fit here. The ships were arranged in two or three rows, and after the construction of a wall they will be positioned in one row, in accordance with the navigation security requirements.
Location of the Bautino port allows border guard ships to quickly reach both southern and northern borders of the Caspian Sea.
