The Day of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development was held in Astana as part of the EXPO 2017. The conference brought together experts from the OECD and representatives of the Kazakh government. Participants discussed measures to stimulate "green growth" and water management in Central Asia. Experts also spoke about innovative developments, the development of education and staff training for an environmentally oriented economy. Experts highly appreciated the results of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the OECD. In their opinion, Kazakhstan is taking active steps to enter the top 30 developed countries. At the same time, experts emphasize that even today Kazakhstan has much to share with other member countries of the Organization.

WILLIAM TOMPSON, HEAD OF DIVISION, OECD:

 - Firstly, Kazakhstan has become a member of several OECD committees, including the investment committee. Kazakhstan is taking part in the work of our economic department on structural policy, the so-called program of aspiration for growth. Kazakhstan is leading the work on the so-called green program for the development of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. This gives the opportunity to exchange experience, and to actively participate in the development of new standards.

According to experts, a major step for Kazakhstan was the adoption of the OECD Declaration on International Investment and Multinational Enterprises. This document is considered one of the most important instruments of the Organization. It covers a whole set of recommendations related not only to investment policy, but also to the responsibility of business. Kazakhstan will present its report in this field in October.
