Surgical cryoablation has been first introduced in Central Asia. The method is used in treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Such operations are performed by freezing certain areas of the human muscular body with the temperature to minus 140 degrees. Kazakh surgeons use the new technology to restore the valve apparatus.

YERMAGAMBET KUATBAYEV, ACTING DIRECTOR, PAVLODAR REGIONAL CARDIAC CENTER:

 - Argon is fed through the electrode; it cools the zone that conducts pathological impulses. This area is frozen to minus 140 degrees. Low temperature destroys these pathological ways, and the cardiac rhythm becomes restored.

Such an operation is very difficult. Such a surgical intervention requires extreme concentration and special skills. Therefore, doctors do not have the right to make a mistake. If they do wrong, healthy tissue can be damaged.

YERMAGAMBET KUATBAYEV, ACTING DIRECTOR, PAVLODAR REGIONAL CARDIAC CENTER:

 - I can say that this is a very complicated process. It is not easy. This is the first cryoablation surgery conducted in Kazakhstan, and across Central Asia.

A Turkish professor was specially invited to conduct the master class on surgical cryoablation. It was there where they developed and applied this technique. According to the Turkish surgeon, cryoablation leads to a positive result in 90 percent of cases.

BAHADIR INAN, TURKISH PROFESSOR:

 - It’s really so successful for treatment of the atrial fibrillation. However, it started not that much old in the world. It’s improving in the world and it’s getting to be in the new places.

Two patients with heart rhythm disorders underwent cryoablation in Pavlodar. According to statistics, 5 percent of Kazakhstan's population suffers from this ailment.
