Development of green technologies in Central Asia

International center for development of green technologies and investment projects "Future Energy" is set to make a contribution to global sustainable development by boosting the development renewable energy projects. It will be located in the zone of best practices on the site of Astana EXPO 2017, and will be launched this summer. According to the Kazakh Energy Ministry spokespeople, the center’s activities will be focused mainly on Central Asia.

ANAR BULZHANOVA, DEPUTY DIRECTOR, DEPARTMENT OF GREEN ECONOMY:

 - The most important task of this center is the transfer of green technologies. The focus should be placed on the Central Asian region. The center will be engaged precisely in conducting scientific research, carrying out expertise of green technologies, monitoring green technologies on a global scale

The Kazakh Energy Minister officials say that the international center will cover seven main areas. Among them is the transformation of energy sector, sustainable urban development, introduction of renewable energy sources, green business and financing, as well as adaptation of green technologies and best practices. The center will address questions of effective waste and water management. According to experts, the opening of the Future Energy Center has already received international support.

 - I would like to note that many financial institutions are supporting the creation of the international center on a regional scale. Many international organizations such as the United Nations Development Program, the Economic Commission for Europe, the OSCE are supporting the initiative.

The initiative to open the international center for development of green technologies and investment projects in Astana was put forward by President Nursultan Nazarbayev at the 70th session of the UN General Assembly in 2015. It is expected that the center will actively cooperate with various international organizations and attract information, educational and financial resources. All this will let speed up green technologies development process both in Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries.
