Unique finding: Ancient warrior's burial site

A unique finding was discovered in Kyrchyn gorge of Kyrgyz Issyk-Kul region, where the third World Nomad Games will be held. A burial site of an ancient warrior was discovered during construction works. According to preliminary data, the member of one of the Scythian tribes found is 2,300 years old.

OROZBEK SOLTOBAYEV, KYRGYZ ARCHEOLOGIST:

 - The warrior was middle-aged because the teeth and jaw are preserved. I made a paper reconstruction. Judging by the burial ritual, he was a distinguished warrior or even a chief.

Scientists also discovered bronze arrowheads and skillfully made horse harnesses among other valuable artefacts. The items will be studied and sent to the state history museum.

ZHYRGALBAY RAIMOV, CONSTRUCTION SITE MANAGER, KYRGYZSTAN:

 - A tent for spectators will be constructed at the site where archaeologists were digging and working with their brushes. We helped them complete the works.

There are more than 250 burial mounds in the Valley of Saka Kings, where distinguished warriors, leaders and rulers of ancient tribes are buried. Part of the graves was looted in ancient times. Howevearchaeologistssts believe that this land still keeps secrets of the ancestors.

OROZBEK SOLTOBAYEV, KYRGYZ ARCHEOLOGIST:

 - During research, local officials insisted that it was just a small hill. I told them that I would prove them wrong. We discovered a burial site with the diameter of 14 meters.

Construction works for the third World Nomad Games have resumed. An ethnic-town with hundreds of yurts will be built at the Kyrchyn gorge. The town will feature ancient Kyrgyz settlement with arches on watchtowers and warriors protecting the area.
