‘Sweets’ exhibition by Regina Shafir Israeli artist’s perspectives on Astana

Israeli artist, Regina Shafir has congratulated Astana on its 20th anniversary. She presented her solo exhibition titled ‘Sweets’ as an anniversary gift to the city.

The exposition includes portraits, landscapes and genre works, which demonstrate the capital of Kazakhstan and its inhabitants.

Having inspired by Astana, the artist delivered with humor the life of Astana at different times of the year on her canvases. She portrayed gigantic skyscrapers, hospitable people, rich ‘dastarkhan’, bright colors of Kazakh national ornaments and EXPO 2017. The authentic perspective on the typical aspects of everyday life of Kazakh people won the love of visitors.

REGINA SHAFIR, ISRAELI ARTIST:

 - I had lived in Astana for two years. I have presented 32 works here which are the sweetest, the most joyful and the most vivid impressions that I’ve had in this city. The drawing technique is watercolor on canvas plus markers and feathers. In general, I am a computer game artist by profession and that is why all my work looks a bit childish.

Since 2008, Regina Shafir has joined the international community of artists, "Urban Sketchers" and today promotes cultural ideas of the movement.

ARDAK YUSUPOV, ART CRITIC:

 - This is an international movement that unites artists who draw city sketches. That is what we call city planner. It seems interesting to me that this is a replacement for a digital camera. I can see the works of an accurate hand, excellent watercolor technique and I think that this is a positive view.

Regina Shafir intends to donate all the money collected from the sales of her paintings to Kazakhstan’s Charity Foundation.
