Astana hosted concert in memory famous Russian cellist Natalia Shakhovskaya

A concert commemorating the famous Russian cellist, Natalia Shakhovskaya was held in the chamber hall of Astana Opera. Yermek Kurmanayev, the outstanding cellist’s apprentice, took part in the concert. Yermek Kurmanayev is a famous Kazakh musician, recognized by many international and local awards, including the First President’s Foundation award for culture and art.

YERMEK KURMANAYEV, CELLIST:

 - There was a huge competition among cellists to be enrolled in her classes. It was very difficult to get there. I was lucky because I completed a Moscow school before being admitted to her class. This teacher made me realize that there is a lot to learn in our profession.

The musicians presented the brightest sonatas of Beethoven and Shostakovich to the audience. According to the cellist, it is necessary to go through a certain learning process and gain significant experience to skillfully perform Shostakovich’s compositions. The musician also admits that both cellist and pianist should demonstrate their best skills here.

ANARA KAMELYINOVA, PIANIST:

 - The compositions performed at the concert are wonderful and bright, they can be called a mini-symphony. They are quite large, extensive and hard to perform. It is a great honor and pleasure for me to perform with Yermek Kurmanayev.

It’s not the first time the two musicians perform together. Surprise compositions were also performed this time. A similar concert was previously held in Almaty.
