Festival of French-speaking cultures kicks off in Kazakhstan. Embassies of five countries, like Belgium, Switzerland, Morocco, Canada and France are taking part in the festival. A variety of cultural events will take place throughout the country for seven weeks. The festival will include poetry meetings, concerts and theatre productions. The spring festival will feature a week of francophone cinema, where five films in French will be presented to the Kazakh audience. This is the 18th festival of francophone culture in Kazakhstan. According to French Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Philippe Martinet, this holiday demonstrates the cultural diversity of over 30 different countries where French is spoken officially.

PHILIPPE MARTINET, FRENCH AMBASSADOR TO KAZAKHSTAN:

 - Cinema is a great heritage to us since through them we can express our feelings about life and relations between people. How societies develop and other delicate sensitive topics can be discussed through art. It is very important for us to share all these topics with other nations.

URS SCHMID, SWISS AMBASSADOR TO KAZAKHSTAN:

-  The five embassies have united in Kazakhstan in order to present to the public a rich program of events, most of which are cultural events. Today we begin with the screening of a rather well-known animated film produced in Switzerland. We are very pleased that we can start the festival with this picture.
