Kazakhstan plans to enter the Guinness Book of Records by gathering the world’s largest collection of asyks. The organizers of this idea have already built a giant asyk. The sculpture is three meters high and four meter long which consists of 50,000 bones. The Asyk Atu Federation plans to use the structure as a landmark and as a place to host the main national game competitions. In 2011, the Federation approved the general rules of the game. Kazakhstan annually hosts official championships and cups of asyk atu as well as international and republican tournaments.
ZHOMART SADYRZHANOV, ACTING DIRECTOR, ‘ASYK ATU’ FEDERATION:
- We set the rules and approved them. There are 8 federations in the republic. All the teaching groups are working. More than 10,000 children are fond of this game where more than 400 instructors train them.
According to Rashid Kuzembayev, it is expected to release a republican action to collect asyks. During the year, special collection spots will be created throughout the country. It is planned to present the asyks at international exhibitions.
RASHID KUZEMBAYEV, CHAIRMAN, KAZAKH TOURISM:
- We intend to host several exhibitions and festivals in order to popularize the cultural heritage. One of them is a festival of nomads, where, in addition to the demonstration of national traditions, games like the Kazakh kures and togyzkumalak will be organized.
