Kazakh theater actors perform in Serbia
Kazakh artists earned the love the Serbian audience. The Gorky State Academic Russian Drama Theater took part in the first Synergy international theater festival in Serbia. The collective presented to the audience “The Mankurt mystery. The eternal slave.” Barzu Abdurazakov from Tajikistan directed the production based on the work of Chingiz Aitmatov. The performance was accompanied by subtitles in Serbian and English, so every spectator sitting in the hall was able to get the special philosophy of the production.
YERKIN KASENOV, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, GORKY ACADEMIC RUSSIAN DRAMA THEATER:
- The idea and purpose of “The Mankurt. The Eternal slave” performance is the fight against religious extremism and terrorism. This is a story about how a person loses spirituality and the meaning of life. The Mankurt is a person who doesn’t distinguish good from evil, he becomes a slave. Through the play we try to reach out to people, warn and show all the risks. We will never be Mankurts. I think it's very important to value yourself and your place in this world.
The Synergy festival had lasted for a week. It united the theatrical collectives of Hungary, Romania, Macedonia, Kazakhstan and Serbia. As part of the event, the actors held symposiums, exchanged experiences and shared plans for the upcoming season. The Gorky Drama Theater received proposals for joint productions.
YERKIN KASENOV, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, GORKY ACADEMIC RUSSIAN DRAMA THEATER :
- It is gratifying that the performance, which we put on trial to the Serbian audience, united the ideas of the productions of other countries participating in the festival. Of course, we were very worried about how the audience will accept the work of our theatrical collective. Fortunately, the evening was a success! After the performance, the spectators have not let us go for a long time. Participation in the festival of Serbia, like any trip of the theatrical collective to European countries, stimulates us not to stop at what has already been achieved.
The tour of the State Academic Russian Drama Theater in Serbia once again proved that the cultural borders between Kazakhstan and European countries are expanding. The theatrical art of Kazakhstan dynamically develops and corresponds to modern world tendencies. Astana hosts annual festivals of international level. The Serbian side expressed its desire to visit them.
