Astana is hosting the eight days theater festival featuring the best plays of ‘Zhastar’ youth theatre. Spectators enjoyed the masterpiece by Abish Kekilbayev, historical drama ‘Abylai Khan’. The festival is marking the new season of the youth theatre ‘Zhastar’ and the 70th birth anniversary of honored worker of Kazakhstan Nurkanat Zhakypbai.

NURKANAT ZHAKYPBAI, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, ‘ZHASTAR’ THEATRE:

- Our theater was founded in 2007. The first play we staged was "Chingiz Khan" by Chingiz Aitmatov and Abish Kekilbaev on June 5. Ten years have passed since that time. Our repertoire includes world classics, Russian, Kazakh, and modern performances. School students, kindergartens and adults come to see our performances. Our audience is basically young people.

Zhastar theatre pays attention to modern trends and spectators’ preferences. The program of the festival includes the tragedy "The Government Inspector", the musical "Mozart", the comedy "The Taming of the Shrew," the nocturne "The Beauty and the Artist", and other productions. According to the organizers, festival visitors can also attend master classes on oratorical art, stage movement, acting and vocal.
