The fifth season has kicked off in Astana Opera. It was opened with a choreographic masterpiece ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ by Tchaikovsky. Outstanding choreographer Yury Grigorovich has presented the production not as a children's fairy tale or an entertaining extravaganza, as other choreographers have done, but as a poetic endeavor that corresponds to the music of the composer.

ALTYNAI ASSYLMURATOVA, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, BALLET TROUPE, ASTANA OPERA:

- It's a classic first of all. It is a large-scale, beautiful ballet. As far as I know, this is one of the first ballets staged after opening of the theater. This is some sort of a tradition.

The theater’s leading ballet dancers perform the main roles. Madina Basbaeva and Aigerim Beketayeva play the role of Princess Aurora, and Yerkin Rakhmatullayev and Tair Gatauov play the role of Prince Desire.

MADINA BASBAEVA, LEADING BALLET DANCER, ASTANA OPERA:

- It is not hard but you should play a young lady. Of course, I am a bit nervous because it’s a new season. We performed abroad, but at home you are nervous too.

The new production has been a debut for a young talented artist, laureate of international competitions Serik Nakyspekov. He plays the role of the Bluebird in the ballet.

SERIK NAKYSPEKOV, BALLET DANCER, ASTANA OPERA:

- The part is quite hard. There are a lot of small technicalities. I have to constantly pull my feet; the part has a lot of jumps. But I’m a good jumper. So, I think that everything will be at a high level

The new season of Astana Opera theater has prepared many performances for its spectators. The theatre will stage a premiere of "Le Corsaire" and "Kozy-Korpesh and Bayan Sulu", as well as a gala-ballet with the participation of world stars dedicated to the 200th birth anniversary of Marius Petipa.
