The ballet troupe of Astana Opera is preparing for the tour to Oman. The ballet dancers from Kazakhstan will present the new production of the famous "Swan Lake". Grandiose performance will be held at Royal Opera House in the capital of Oman, Muscat, between the 28th and 30th of September. The author of the new interpretation of the ageless classic is the artistic director of the ballet troupe Altynai Assylmuratova.

ALTYNAI ASSYLMURATOVA, ARTISTIC DIRECTOR, ASTANA OPERA BALLET TROUPE:

 - The main version was staged in St. Petersburg in 1895 by Lev Ivanov and Marius Petipa. Our production is based on the first version; we tried to keep the spirit of "Swan Lake" created by those great people. Of course, we made our changes, but only in those parts that were edited by other directors.

It took two months to create the production. Leading Kazakh ballet soloist will play the main parts. Madina Basbayeva will perform both black and white swans.  The artist admits that playing the two antagonist characters, the good and the evil, during one performance is far more challenging than the technicalities of the performance.

MADINA BASBAEVA, LEADING BALLET DANCER, ASTANA OPERA:

 - In fact, this performance is very complicated because I have to perform Odile, a different character, with a more emotional temperament; I need to perform a white and a black swan at the same time.

About 80 people are involved in the production, including almost the entire ballet troupe of the theater, as well as lighting staff, make-up artists, dressers and many others. All of them will be part of the production in Oman. The performances of Astana Opera artists will be accompanied by the symphonic orchestra of the Italian theater Carlo Felice.
