Latvian citizens now have a new opportunity to learn about the Kazakh culture and traditions. ‘Words of Edification’ by the great Kazakh poet and philosopher Abai Kunanbayev have been translated into the Latvian language.

 - These are 45 fragments of short philosophical stories that give answers to many questions. Of course, he had a critical approach and wrote mainly for the Kazakh people, we understand it. But Abai’s criticism shows love for his people, love for his culture, his language and traditions. Readers can see how the Kazakh mentality was formed.

 

‘Words of Edification’ by Abai is a true cultural heritage for many generations of the Kazakh people. The fundamental work was written more than a century ago and consists of 45 parables and philosophical treatises. However the wisdom in these texts is universal and applicable to the present days.

The presentation of the great poet’s book took place in Daugavpils University located in the second largest city of Latvia. This city is home for representatives of many nationalities. It combines cultures and religions of different nations and reflects that unique model of interethnic consent that Kazakhstan has

 - We are committed to long-term cooperation with Kazakhstan and, of course, in order to better understand each other, we need to know about the culture of our people and of our friends. Abai is a part of culture, is the fundamental of Kazakhstan's development. And I think that this will give us a better opportunity to understand Kazakhstan and, let's say, work with it.

 

"Words of edification" by Abai will soon be translated to the Lithuanian and Estonian languages. In the meantime, the transition of the Kazakh language to Latin script will allow spreading the Kazakh classics and masterpieces worldwide, the famous poet Serik Turganbekuly believes. He agrees with the opinion of the head of state Nursultan Nazarbayev expressed in an interview to "Khabar" agency. According to the poet, Modernization of Public Consciousness opens new opportunities.
