The first international symposium under the auspices of UNESCO and ISESCO was held in Astana. It brought together more than 400 librarians from across Kazakhstan and far and near abroad, including Turkey, Iran, South Korea, China, Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Egypt, and Austria. Participants discussed questions of modernization of school book depositories, new models of staff training, digital technologies and exchanged experience.

SHARBANU DINASILOVA, DIRECTOR, SOUTH KAZAKHSTAN NIVERSAL SCIENTIFIC LIBRARY:

 - How to promote reading among our readers? Here,  we are trying to find an answer to this question. We have to keep up with the times, update the database, and develop the system of electronic communication in libraries.

To promote reading, experts propose to regularly update collections of book depositories and increase the prestige of the profession. In addition, delegates presented a single electronic library of Turkic-speaking countries in the forum.

ASSEL LAKHAYEVA, PROJECT COORDINATOR:

 - Electronic library will be available on Kazneb, Kazakhstan’s National Academic Library’s website. There will be rare Turkic books, and manuscripts.

According to the organizers, the symposium drew the world's attention to the development of libraries. It became a platform for further cultural exchange and development of international cooperation.
