Kazakh National University of Arts hosted the International Forum, “The Great Silk Road: interaction of cultures of West and East” as part of Astana EXPO 2017. Executives of musical institutions from 13 different countries met in Astana. Participants discussed issues of preservation and development of traditional national culture, as well as succession of musical heritage. The leading musical institutions of Kazakhstan, Korea, Italy, China, Turkey and etc. shared their experience. As a result of the forum, universities and conservatories have signed memorandums of cooperation.

AIMAN MUSSAKHАJAYEVA, RECTOR, KAZAKH NATIONAL ARTS UNIVERSITY:

- As part of these memorandums, we would like to implement student exchange programs and the academic mobility program. Moreover, we would like to invite leading professors from different universities in order to conduct joint master courses. The memorandums with the Moscow Conservatory and Academy of Santa Cecilia in Rome were signed long ago.

ALEXANDER SOKOLOV, RECTOR, MOSCOW STATE TCHAIKOVSKY CONSERVATORY:

 - This is a good opportunity to integrate all these initiatives and develop a common platform for interaction between the largest centers of musical culture and theatrical culture. It seems to me that the venue of this meeting is excellent since Astana, as the capital, and Kazakhstan are a very good example of elaborating national tradition taking into account the ideas that arise in the European world.
