‘Road to a mother’ by Akan Satayev may be nominated for OSCAR
A Kazakh film, Road to a Mother by Akan Satayev, is expected to be nominated for the Academy Award as the Best Foreign Language Film. This was announced at the annual Tulpar Film Award. Akan Satayev’s film conveys incredible power of a mother’s love. Mariyam who is separated from her son continues to wait for her child’s arrival for 30 years. The main hero of the film goes through adversities: the orphanage, the war, captivity and labor camps, but the mother hopes for the best.
According to Kazakh film academicians, filmmaker Akan Satayev has done a tremendous job over the past year. His second film “Districts”, won four nominations of the Tulpar Film Award and received the highest award.

- To be honest, I feel a little shy, but it feels very nice. Thank you very much again, this is indeed a very high assessment, especially when colleagues evaluate. It is very pleasant.
Actors, Kairat Kemalov featured in “Kazakh Khanate” and Elteres Nurzhanov featured in “Districts”, won awards for the Best Actor. Production directors and cinematographers of “Kazakh Khanate, Diamond Sword” granted the statuette of the Tulpar Film Award. Two feature films and one documentary film were nominated for the Best Film.

- These were super news to me. I was surprised especially when I saw what kinds of films are nominated along with us, because “Sea Tomorrow” is an art-house film.
Starting from this year, the National Academy of Motion Picture Arts promised to recommend winners of the Tulpar Film Award for an Oscar.

-We decided to give our filmmakers the opportunity to submit their films for this award. According to the criteria, a special commission will decide whether they pass tests.
The Tulpar Film Festival is a part of a large program to support domestic cinema. In general, this year the Ministry of Culture and Sports allocated 90 million tenge for the film festival’s development.
