Kazakhstan will host the second Baikonur film festival
Kazakhstan will host the second Baikonur film festival which is scheduled for September 15th and 16th. More than 140 films will take part in the contest. 35 movies will be screened. The contest format is a short film. The chairman of jury believes that this is the most difficult genre.
AKHAT YBRAYEV, CHAIRMAN OF JURY, BAIKONUR FILM FESTIVAL:
- I expect that this festival will become a platform for young people who will be able to realize themselves professionally as well as to form the market and the film language.
The winners are selected according to the categories like Best Actor, Best Cinematographer, Best Director and Best Screenplay. In comparison with last year, the number of nominations increased to 12: two new candidacies like Production Designer and Special Prize are added. Animation films will be shown, too. The contest winners will study in the New York Film Academy and take part in international competitions.
TIMUR ISMAILOV, SENIOR COORDINATOR OF PROJECTS, FUND OF FIRST PRESIDENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:
- I want to emphasize the uniqueness of the festival since it unites dozens of emerging filmmakers. By allocating a grant for this project, we support not only a particular filmmaker, but also a whole bunch of beginning directors.
The winner will be awarded the festival’s statuette and the film screening on air at El Arna TV channel. The schedule of shows is published on the film festival’s official web site baikonur.brod.kz. The entrance is free.
