UniFrance Association, French Embassy and Alliance Française have organized a film festival in Kazakhstan. This year, the festival was held in Astana and Almaty. Films of various genres were shown at the festival. Spectators enjoyed the comedy with Pierre Richard and Kristiin Clavie, a melodrama with Katrin Denev and French short films.

JOEL CHAPRON, FILM FESTIVAL ORGANIZER, FRANCE:

 - It is not just a promotion of French culture and films, this is also a commercial, so to say, propaganda. We support local distributors who purchase the films and show them on big screens. We bring artists here and arrange a pre-premiere show before the film is released.

BAURZHAN SHUKENOV, CO-ORGANIZER, FRENCH FILM FESTIVAL, KAZAKHSTAN:

 - Some films will be released right after the film festival; some will be shown in Russia first. Dalida is being shown for the first time in Almaty and Astana; no one has seen it in the CIS before.

The film festival was held eighth time in Kazakhstan, and has established itself as one of the prestigious venues for French cinema premieres. The first Kazakh pavilion will appear at the 70th Cannes Film Festival as part of a Kazakh-French cultural interaction. It will become a platform for promotion of Kazakh films at the international level.
