Review on Central Asia

The President of Tajikistan will pay a state visit to Uzbekistan between 17th and 18th of August, CA-News service reported. During the visit, the parties will sign more than 20 documents, including the agreement on strategic partnership as well as delimitation and demarcation of the state border between the two countries. The last state visit of the Tajik leader to Uzbekistan took place 20 years ago in 1998.

Kyrgyzstan is raising its investment attractiveness. Special lots for investors featuring permitting documents will be prepared in the republic. According to Vesti.kg news service, the lots will also include a prepared basic infrastructure. According to the first deputy prime minister of Kyrgyzstan Kubatbek Boronov, improvement of business environment and investments attraction are the priorities of the Kyrgyz Government.

Dushanbe hosted the first meeting of the Tajikistan – Kazakhstan business council. It was attended by representatives of more than 20 large enterprises of Kazakhstan and about 100 Tajik businessmen. According to the Tajik Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the forum’s central topics include the development and strengthening of Tajik-Kazakh trade and economic cooperation, expansion of business contacts, promotion of the Tajik and Kazakh businesses on the markets of both countries and attraction of mutual investments. Currently, there are 84 Kazakh-invested enterprises operating in Tajikistan.

Uzbekistan started electrifying its railway lines that travels to Kyrgyzstan and China. The works are underway on the Pap – Namangan – Andijan operational section that connects the eastern part of Uzbekistan with Kyrgyzstan and China. Electrified lines as part of the China – Central Asia – Europe international transit railroad corridor are also expected to be built in the upcoming years in Uzbekistan.
