Third world nomad games - Kazakh TV

The Third World Nomad Games will be held under UNESCO’s patronage. The status will allow the large-scale event to be held under the organization’s auspices and most importantly to use the organization’s logo as well. Experts said the patronage will enhance the status of the World Nomad Games in the international arena. The event is similar to the Olympic Games. The first games were held in September 2014 on the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake.

NURSULTAN ADENOV, HEAD OF SECRETARIAT, III WORLD NOMAD GAMES ORGANIZING COMMITTEE:

 - The Nomad Games contributes to the preservation of the cultural heritage and the authenticity of traditional sports. This patronage will be useful for us because it will positively affect the project’s sustainability and further development. The whole world will recognize that the Nomad Games is an important project that will benefit the international community.

Meanwhile, UNESCO has inscribed the traditional horse game, Kok Boru, on its Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. During a meeting with the executive secretary of the Kyrgyz National Commission for UNESCO, the president of Kyrgyzstan stressed that it is a great achievement, pride and victory for all the people of Kyrgyzstan.

SOORONBAY JEENBEKOV, PRESIDENT OF KYRGYZ REPUBLIC:

 - UNESCO’s patronage will contribute to the promotion of the World Nomad Games’ status on the international arena. Thanks to the World Nomad Games, we improved the performance of the Kyrgyz traditional game Kok Boru and made it well known and recognized around the world. Kok Boru is an ancient game of the Kyrgyz people who passed it from generation to generation for many centuries. I also used to play this game, it is dynamic and captivating.

 - First of all, I would like to express gratitude to our Kok Boru players. This nomination and this game would have never been possible without them. As they preserve and play this game in the villages and in cities, we managed to preserve and promote this game on the international level.

The third World Nomad Games will begin on September, 2. The competition will cover 37 ethnic sports. 3,000 athletes representing 80 countries are expected to participate in the games.
