Kyrgyzstan assumed the chairmanship in the Committee on Specific Commitments of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in the services sector. This chairmanship will allow the Kyrgyz government to be actively engaged in the global processes in the trade sector and to promote the national interests in the organization, Sputnik Kyrgyzstan news agency reported referring to Kyrgyzstan’s ministry of economy. The WTO has over 140 member countries. Upon accession to the organization, each member country identifies sectors of services that it is committed to and ready to hold negotiations.

The Central Asian countries entered the Global Peace Index, according to CA-portal news service. The rankings of the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) include the republics of the region where Kazakhstan is ranked 70th, Uzbekistan rated 104th, Kyrgyzstan took the 108th position, Tajikistan was placed at the 114th position and Turkmenistan was ranked 119th position. The research results are used by the governments, research institutions, analytical centers, as well as non-governmental and inter-governmental organizations, such as the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), the Commonwealth Secretariat, the World Bank and the United Nations. The IEP enters the list of 15 most effective analytical centers of the world.

The Uzbek government is building its tourist attraction efforts by allowing foreign tourists to buy gold bars in Uzbekistan. The precious metals can be purchased and taken out of the country under a simplified procedure. Currently, travelers can buy gold items out of the country in a limited amount and for personal use only. The government is set to focus on the development of tourism by attracting customers. Recently, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved an order permitting retail sellers to sell gold weighing between five grams and one kilogram. In the past, the precious metal was available only in the industrial-scale volumes or in the form of jewelry in Uzbekistan.
