Review on Central Asia

Discussions between Uzbek President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan resulted in the participation of Uzbekistan in the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States. The meeting between the presidents was held in Tashkent, according to a report by news agency, “CA-news”. The Turkic Council is an international organization that brings together present-day Turkic states. Its main goal is to develop the comprehensive cooperation between the member countries. Currently, the council includes Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkey.

The only plant in Central Asia which produces insulin was opened in the Uzbek city of Andijan. According to news agency, CA-news, the facility will produce an average of ten million bottles of insulin per year. Based on its business plan, the products will be available not only in the Uzbek market, but also to all the countries in Central Asia region as well.

Tajikistan and Uzbekistan plan to open bus links between the two countries on May 15th. According to news agency, “CA-news,” both countries are currently discussing the cost of travel for various routes. The “Khujand – Tashkent” and “Penjikent – Samarkand” routes will be opened first while the other routes will be launched at a later date. Tajikistan and Uzbekistan had earlier agreed on several bus routes, which includes ‘Dushanbe – Termez,’ ‘Bokhtar – Denau,’ ‘Pendzhikent – Samarkand,’ ‘Pendzhikent – Bukhara,’ ‘Khujand – Tashkent,’ as well as a route from ‘Kanibadam’ to the Uzbek cities of Fergana valley. According to the Tajik authorities, over 10,000 local residents travel to various cities of neighboring Uzbekistan every day.

Astana hosted the third Eurasian Book Fair where representatives of 150 publishing houses from twenty countries participated. The exhibition’s activities include scientific conferences, books presentations as well as an award ceremony to the participants and winners of the competition. The album ‘Tajikistan’ won the 2nd degree prize in ‘The Best Book’ nomination while the two-volume ‘Encyclopedia of Culture of the Tajik People’ won the ‘Culture and Art’ nomination. Meanwhile, the chief scientific editorial staff of the Tajik National Encyclopedia and the publishing house received the grand prize for the book "Encyclopedia for Children and Adolescents."
