New Sirdaryo Free Economic Zone will start operating in Uzbekistan. According to the Trend.az news agency, the FEZ will operate for 30 years with the option of extending its term. Special tax and customs regulations will be applied here. For example, depending on the volume of investment, all enterprises of FEZ will be exempted from paying land, profit and property taxes as well as making mandatory payments to specific state funds for various periods. Investors will also be exempted from customs payments for imported raw materials, supplies and components.

Tajik government plans to increase the area of cotton plantations in 2018, the “CentralAsia” news website reports. According to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Agriculture, cotton fields are expanded due to the reduction of areas allocated for grain crops and fodder plants. In 2017, 174 thousand hectares were allocated for cotton cultivation. Agrarians collected an unprecedented 380 thousand tonnes of cotton. Most part of the cotton fiber produced in Tajikistan is exported.

During the talks, representatives of Kazakhstan’s National Agency for Technological Development and a number of Norwegian companies agreed on cooperation. Thus, International Development Norway will provide assistance to the Kazakh agency on the methodological support to private business incubators. Innovation Norway will share its experience in providing services in innovation management. Oslo International Hub expressed great interest in the activities of the International Technology park of IT startups to be located in EXPO area.

A commemorative plaque for the outstanding Kazakh scientist Kanysh Satpaev was established in Dushanbe, the CA-News agency reports. The Geology Institute of Tajikistan’s Sciences Academy held a solemn ceremony of opening the memorial plaque. Scientists, representatives of the Kazakhstan-Tajikistan Friendship Society took part in the event. The participants recognized Kanysh Satpayev’s significant contribution to the establishment of Tajikistan’s Sciences Academy and the geological science of the Central Asian countries, in general.
