Turkmen and Uzbek governments intend to expand areas of cooperation. According to the “Uzreport” news agency, the governments of the two countries are planning to strengthen bilateral cooperation in politics, trade, economy, culture and other areas. Ashgabat hosted another round of political consultations between the delegations of the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan. The diplomats of the two countries also discussed Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov’s upcoming visit to Uzbekistan.

Tajik and Uzbek sports officials are ready to enhance cooperation in sports, CA-NEWS news agency reports. Dushanbe hosted a meeting between the representatives of the Olympic committees of the two countries. The parties agreed to cooperate in joint trainings of athletes and holding master classes with well-known coaches. Tajik athletes can use the services of the sports medicine center under the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan.

This year marks the 90th birth anniversary of famous Kyrgyz writer Chingiz Aitmatov. According to “kabar.kg” news agency, over 3.5 million from all over the world supported the flash mob titled “We Remember Aitmatov” on the social media.  TURKSOY also declared 2018 the year of Chingiz Aitmatov. During this time, events dedicated to the great author will be held in TURKSOY member countries. For instance, in Kazakhstan, the International Turkic Academy’s scientists jointly with Kyrgyz scientists prepared a two-volume monograph about the writer. Uzbek researchers are planning to publish memoirs titled “Chingiz Aitmatov and Uzbekistan” and to make a documentary film about the writer.

Street and tourist signs are being introduced across Kyrgyzstan, the “24.kg” news agency reports. The U.S. Agency for International Development will place the total of 125 road signs and city maps across the country, of which eleven tourist maps will be erected in Naryn, Issyk-Kul and Osh regions. This will allow tourists to better navigate in Kyrgyzstan.
