SCO member states will hold a joint border operation in 2018

Regional cooperation and integration is a priority for the Central Asian countries. According to experts, these mechanisms serve to improve economic stability and competitiveness of the states. Kazakhstan and other Central Asian republics are actively participating in the strengthening of the activities of structures of regional integration based on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. As part of the SCO, the cooperation creates conditions for strengthening regional and global security. This year, the SCO member states will hold a joint border operation. In Tashkent, the members of the SCO Regional Anti-terrorist Structure approved the draft program for 2019-2021. The three-year document implies the joint work on strengthening the fight against terrorism and extremism.

SERGEY SHVEIKIN, FIRST DEPUTY CHIEF, ANTITERRORIST CENTER HQ, KAZAKH COMMITTEE OF NATIONAL SECURITY:

- A number of decisions were taken. They concern the joint areas where we will continue to work in the future. For example, we are planning to disrupt the recruitment process of international terrorist organizations in places where people are deprived of liberty who live in the SCO member states.

RUSTAM MAMASADYKOV, DEPUTY CHAIRPERSON, KYRGYZ STATE COMMITTEE FOR NATIONAL SECURITY:

- The SCO member states and observer states under the SCO scheduled the sixth research and practical conference on cooperation in countering international extremism and terrorism for the fourth quarter of 2018.

Today, the SCO unites 40% of the world population and includes the third part of the global economy. Undoubtedly, this influential international organization opens new opportunities for the dynamic development of Central Asia. In this regard, China considers the region’s countries as strategically important partners and plans to expand cooperation with the states in many areas.

SANAT KUSHKUMBAYEV, DEPUTY DIRECTOR, KAZAKHSTAN INSTITUTE FOR STRATEGIC STUDIES

- China is interested in the economic prosperity, stability and security of Central Asia which is the nearest neighbor to its north-western periphery. Our region, Central Asia and Kazakhstan, borders the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. China intends to develop and make the region economically stable which is far from the eastern and southern regions of the country.

All the member states of the SCO actively cooperate in the humanitarian and cultural areas.
