Kazakhstan’s transit potential - Kazakh TV

Kazakhstan is enhancing its transit potential. The Government is planning to increase the volumes of traffic to 2 million containers by 2020. A large part of the freight traffic is attributed to the routes from China to Europe through the area of Kazakhstan. The trains from Lianyungang port go through Central Asia and Turkey. At the same time, the freights are dispatched from the Khorgos – Eastern Gates dry port in Kazakhstan to the Chinese city of Chengdu. Kazakhstan serves as a transit hub in this large-scale logistics scheme.

 - This service is designed for the freights with a critical delivery time. These goods include electronics, consumer goods and fashion industry items. 

The Kazakh government allocated about US$30 billion for modernization of the transport and logistics infrastructure. The speed of the container trains across the area of Kazakhstan increased to 1,100 kilometers per day. The freight from South-Eastern provinces of China is delivered to the United Kingdom in just15-17 days. The Government is planning to increase the speed to 1,500 kilometers per day in the upcoming years. New logistics centers have been opened across Kazakhstan and beyond. The area of one of them located in Lianyungang totals 220,000 square meters. The terminal logistics center provides the opportunity for the Kazakh goods to enter the markets of China and Southeast Asia.

 - Currently, we are intensively working on shipments of grains. In 2016, Lianyungang port was awarded the status of the only port in China that has a right of transiting grains through Lianyungang port.

Currently, Kazakhstan has terminals in the ‘Khorgos – Eastern Gates’ free economic zone at the Kazakh-Chinese border, as well as in Astana, Shymkent and the ports of Aktau and Kyryk. Similar centers are built in Moscow region and there plans to establish them in India and Iran. According to experts, Kazakhstan having no access to the open sea, is currently demonstrating to the world the real way out of the transport deadlock. Kazakhstan is asserting itself as a large international transit hub.
