EAEU-EU cooperation prospects
Challenges and opportunities of single economic space of the European Union (EU) and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) were discussed by businessmen at a forum in Moscow. The discussion addressed a wide range of issues related to strengthening integration between member countries. According to experts, active cooperation in the fields of transportation, establishment of the tariff policy and attraction of foreign direct investments contribute to the creation of the favorable environment. Special attention was paid to the trans-Eurasian land transport corridor projects. The establishment of the Silk Road Economic Belt can become a mutually beneficial platform to bring the countries closer.
KUANYSH BALTABAYEV, SENIOR STAFF, KAZAKHSTAN’S NATIONAL CHAMBER OF ENTREPRENEURS:
- The Russian market in particular and the markets of the EAEU member countries is a large promising market where we can compete with the Russian, Belarusian, Kyrgyz and Armenian entrepreneurs and thus expand our reach. We are mainly interested in the Russian ports to enter international markets, such as the Asia-Pacific region and Northern Europe.
PHILIPPE PEGORIER, PRESIDENT, ALSTOM RUSSIA:
- We can produce the fastest locomotives, but it won’t help if the trains have to be parked for a week for cargo clearance. Unification of documents is also important. We need to have more contacts between the EU and the EAEU and between the commissions. We told our authorities in France and Brussels that we need to have closer contacts.
