The Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway will reach its full design capacity by 2022. Up to 15 million tonnes of cargo will be transported annually through this corridor. This was announced by vice minister of investments and development of Kazakhstan, Roman Sclyar. According to the minister, this road gives new opportunities for domestic exporters. Via the railway over 3 million 300,000 tonnes of cargo were transported within three years.

ROMAN SCLYAR, VICE MINISTER OF INVESTMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

- Most importantly, the distance of transportation is reduced to 600 kilometers comparing to the previous route. In addition, our railway administrations set up tariffs on an ongoing basis that are profitable for our exporters and carriers. The total length of the railway is 938 kilometers. In particular, 146 kilometers pass via our territory and 700 kilometers proceed through Turkmenistan’s territory.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan cooperate in shipping. The countries agreed to jointly develop the shipping in the Caspian Sea. Today the National Kazmortransflot Maritime Shipping Company carries oil from the Turkmenbashi International Seaport to Makhachkala and the Baku port. This year the volume of cargo transportations made more than 1 million tonnes. The states also plan to increase the cargo turnover between the sea ports of Aktau and Turkmenbashi.

ROMAN SCLYAR, VICE MINISTER OF INVESTMENTS AND DEVELOPMENT OF KAZAKHSTAN:

- They make up over 4000 tonnes. Last year we commissioned the northern terminal of the Aktau port which will increase the throughput capacity by 2 million tonnes of cargo. We expect that we will be able to compete with our partners.

Last year, the trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan exceeded US$283 million. Kazakhstan’s export to Turkmenistan made up US$69 million and the import from Turkmenistan is estimated at US$214 million. The countries intend to reach US$1 billion in the trade turnover.

GALYMZHAN KOISHYBAYEV, KAZAKH DEPUTY MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS:

 - The companies like Kazakhstan Temir Zholy and Kazakhstan Engineering are holding negotiations on participation in major projects. Secondly, Turkmenistan is a neighboring state which means it is close to our market. The export of goods isn’t difficult. We have an intergovernmental committee on trade and economic cooperation.

At the meeting the Majilis approved the ratification of the agreement on strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.
