Kazakhstan and Moldova: prospects of cooperation
Kazakhstan and Moldova intend to intensify trade and economic cooperation. Two countries are focusing on the development of imports and exports. This can be facilitated by the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor. Fruits, vegetables, canned food and the legendary Moldovan wine are traditionally the export leaders from Moldova to Kazakhstan. These groups of goods account for up to 80% of the total export volume. In turn, Kazakhstan’s chemical industry products, equipment, various medicines, and also minerals are in demand in Moldova. Having established a transport and logistics communication with Moldova, Kazakhstan can open new markets.
SAMAT ORDABAYEV, AMBASSADOR OF KAZAKHSTAN TO MOLDOVA:
- I believe logistics link to Moldova will bear fruit. Given the good geographical position of Moldova, it seems to me that Kazakhstan might be interested in the access to the Balkans through Moldova. First of all, Kazakhstan could deliver grain, oil, and gas, bring direct investments in the Balkan countries and in Eastern Europe.
In April, Presidents of Kazakhstan and Moldova held a meeting to discuss bilateral cooperation, in particular, the opportunities for activating contacts between businessmen of the two republics.
VALERIU OSTALEP, FORMER DEPUTY MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS AND EUROPEAN INTEGRATION OF MOLDOVA:
- Like all other European countries, we are very interested in Kazakhstan since it is a huge market. Unfortunately, I believe that Moldovans know little about the opportunities that exist in Kazakhstan in terms of the market, which is certainly one of the most promising, any businessman understands it well. Kazakhstan’s potential in Moldova poses interest as well because Kazakhstan is much more interesting as a business partner in terms of the export of capital this country has.
Kazakhstan and Moldova focus not only on economic, but also humanitarian cooperation.
ROMAN STANKOV, HONORARY CONSUL OF KAZAKHSTAN IN MOLDOVA:
- Our consular service focuses on social and cultural events. We help vulnerable segments of the population, and donate money to orphanages.
Kazakhstan and Moldova are also planning to develop cooperation in other spheres, especially in technology.
