KAZAKHSTAN INCREASES OIL EXPORTS
Kazakh oil fields are increasing oil production. According to the head of the national oil&gas operator “Kazmunaigas” Sauat Mynbayev, Tengiz oil deposit can increase production to 38 million metric tonnes by 2020. Karachaganak field will still keep its production volume at 11 million tons of oil per year. In addition to oil extraction, Kazakhstan is planning to increase its exports. Such a statement was made at the international forum in Baku.
SATZHAN KARIMOV, SENIOR STAFF, KAZAKH MINISTRY OF ENERGY:
- So, in 2017, production will be 81 million tonnes, followed by an increase to 87 million tonnes in 2020. In 2017, the project to increase the capacity of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium has been completed, providing for an increase in capacity from 28 million tonnes to 67 million tonnes of oil per year, including 52.5 million tonnes of the Kazakh share. Thus, the projected volume of oil exports in 2017 is about 65 million tonnes.
Export of Kashagan oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline was another important topic at the forum. According to the spokesperson of the Kazakh energy ministry, the partie4s will identify the most convenient and profitable way of transporting oil. The experts are reviewing the possibility of exporting Kazakh oil via the Transcaucasian route as well.
ILHAM SHABANOV, DIRECTOR OF OIL RESEARCH CENTER, AZERBAIJAN:
- Transportation of oil from the Kashagan field through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, first, depends on the price of oil, and secondly, on the volume of production. This year, the volume of production is expected at 3-4 million tonnes. In reality, oil production in this field should be 12 million tonnes, so that at least 10 percent can be sent through the territory of Azerbaijan.
Experts also note the importance of the Caspian region as an integral part of the global economic processes. Therefore, the enormous potential and advantages of geographical location are of particular importance in terms of global energy security and the implementation of large-scale projects.
