The Portuguese Government has decided to significantly increase the property tax, if an apartment locates in a good district or with decent views. The apartment, which is facing south, may lead to an increase in taxes up to 20%, according to The Portugal News. At the same time, the levy on dwellings overlooking a cemetery, or located on the ground floor, or facing north may be reduced by 10 percent. The degree of a so-called noise pollution will be reportedly factored into the tax calculations. The changes in the calculation of the tax affect only new buildings or property which undergoes revaluation procedure. Previously, the tax value was calculated depending on the property location, but this factor was only five per cent in the formula that determines the size of payments, says Deutsche Welle.
