In 2016, Kazakhstan plans to sign an agreement with Iran in the field of maritime merchant shipping in the Caspian Sea, RIA Novosti reports. At this time, the interstate procedures on coordination of the project were completed. According to the agreement, a single legal framework will be established for the development of maritime transport between the ports of Kazakhstan and Iran. According to the Kazakh Ministry of Investments, the volume of freight traffic between the countries by sea routes totals about 2 million tons. Kazakhstan has similar agreements on cooperation in the field of merchant shipping with all the Caspian countries - Turkmenistan, Russia and Azerbaijan.
