Gift for Astana’s Jubilee

Part of Holland in Astana. Another unique art object has been presented in the capital. Tulip shaped chairs were installed in the central park of the city. This is a gift presented by the Netherlands to the country’s main city in honor of its 20th anniversary. According to townspeople, art facilities are harmoniously put in place in the city landscape and are easy to use.

ASEL TOKTASYNKYZY, ASTANA RESIDENT:

 - I live in Astana and almost every day I stroll in this park. These chairs are very comfortable. They are easy to open, especially during sunny days, and when it rains, they remain dry.

The designer of the functional tulips is famous Dutch artist, Marco Manders. According to his idea, 25 seats represent the quarter century cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands. They are made from environmentally friendly materials.

NORA DESSING, SPOKESPERSON, KINGDOM OF THE NETHERLANDS IN KAZAKHSTAN:

 - As far as I know the wild tulips came from Kazakhstan. They were grown here and they came to the Netherelands through Turkey and then in the Netherlands they became so popular that you can find tulips everywhere. They really love it. I don’t think many people know that they come from Kazakhstan. As an embassy and our relations, we always try to highlight this point as well.

Similar art objects are also installed in the central squares and streets of the world’s many megacities.
