Topics on global challenges will be discussed in Astana

Astana will host the Astana Economic Forum from May 17 to May 19 to discuss the topics on global challenges. Thus this year the event is turned into the Global Challenges Summit. Experts said that the change is a testimony of Kazakhstan’s new status in the international discourse on the opportunities and challenges of global development. The forum participants will discuss the most crucial issues of today, such as economic growth, sustainability of resources, digital transformation, urban development, longevity, financial revolution and security.

BULAT STOLYAROV, FORUM’S GENERAL PRODUCER:

-The Expo 2017 has definitely become the starting point of these discussions. Kazakhstan has emerged as a global platform for the discussions of the most important megatrends worldwide. We want to continue this work. One of the missions of the forum is to have open discussions on issues that concern any country.

The significance of the forum is not only due to the discussion topics but also the attending speakers. The organizers said that this year’s Global Challenges Summit 2018 will be a forum of ‘Hundreds of Stars.’ Leading world experts such as top politicians, world-renowned scientists, economists and founders of large corporations will arrive in Astana to participate in the forum.

URAZGALI SELTEYEV, LEADING EXPERT, INSTITUTE OF WORLD ECONOMICS AND POLITICS:

- For the last ten years, this forum has proved itself to be a discussion platform for the world scientific community as well as experts, politicians and economists. I must say that over the years, nearly 7000 participants attended the AEF annually. The participants are representatives of more than 100 countries. It has become a tradition that Nobel laureates in Economics take part in the forum.

Over the last ten years, there were about 50, 000 delegates from 150 countries visited the forum. The delegates include more than 20 Nobel laureates and 30 high-level foreign politicians. Nearly 300 memorandums and agreements worth 20 billion U.S dollars were signed at the previous events. This year the Astana Economic Forum will once again become a strategic solutions platform to global developments.
